Nineveh is an unincorporated hamlet with about 50 homes on the banks of the Susquehanna River in New York. It is part of the Town of Colesville. Nineveh is located on the USGS Afton quadrangle at an elevation of about 960 feet. Nineveh is part of the Binghamton metropolitan area within New York state. Nineveh is located along the tracks of the Delaware and Hudson Railroad. and has a distinct tressle located there. Almost every structure on Route 7 in Nineveh lost the contents of its basement and first floor. Older residents reported that the only flood which had approached the level and devastation of the 2006 flood happened in 1935. Nineveh, New York, takes its name from ancient Nineveh, the most important city on the Tigris River in the ancient kingdom of Assyria (now Iraq). Nineveh is located in eastern BROOME county Binghamton Metropolitan Statistical Area.
